Finished Painting titled Boat Rental

16 x 20 oil on canvas board

I let this one set for a few days before finishing.  I'm happy with it.  I think I captured the beauty of the sun bouncing off the boats and water and especially off the warm colored sand.  The water in the foreground is a warmer greenish blue than what the photo shows.  Getting the grayed whites in the middle ground boats was challenging.  I went from warm to cool and watched my values, as subtle as they were.

Day 3 progress

I'm working on my values, especially with the whites.  I've been following a tremendous artist, Colin Page .  I notice he uses pure white, or what looks like pure white, minimally.  The whites I've used are mixed warm and cool whites.  There are so many in this painting which is making it difficult for me with the values.  I'll certainly learn a lot doing this one.  I'll then use straight white when I'm ready for the few highlights.

Painting in progress

This is my beginning.  I'm posting from my new iPad.  This photo is of another photo.  I was able to edit it, crop it, put a grid over it to aid my drawing, and work from it.  I just love my iPad!

I entered two paintings in an exhibition that was open to the public at the Art and Frame Store of Sarasota.  They will be on display the month of February.  Didn't get any awards, but it was good experience.
