Yes, this WAS me and sure wish it still was.  Well, not that age but having that figure again. I like where I am in my life right now.  Who wouldn't?  Retired and doing what I want which is painting!!!  As I was painting the other beach figures, I remembered I had this one of me on Pensacola Beach, Florida.  I used to put this photo on my refrigerator when I was dieting.  ......... It's back.  Enjoy!

Need models...

I've been working on figures after watching Peggi Kroll Roberts video.  The first picture is my exercise.  The next was a figure from another painting I did earlier.  I painted it last night and you sure wouldn't have wanted to see that one.  The drawing was ok but the colors didn't work.  I scraped it off this morning, did my figure exercises (painting, that is) and gave it another try.  Much better than it was.  The last beach scene is from photos I took this summer while in Sarasota.

Still life attempt

This is an 8 x 10 oil on canvas panel.  Wish I'd placed the apple differently in this composition.  I think I did ok with the color palette, but I'm not sure if the balance of cool and warm is correct.  Too half and half?  Kept loading on the paint in this one.  I followed another of Peggi Kroll Roberts lessons.  So much to learn and digest.  I know that I'm improving, but I'm so particular.  I can fuss and fuss.  Sound familiar to those who remember being at my stage of learning to paint?

Check out my blog list.  I've found such incredible artists' blogs.

My new studio

This is my new studio area.  My husband added a room (his man cave) in the basement and moved all his things down there which left me this sunny room.  He put up some shelves for me and I'm getting settled.  I'm getting really serious now...

I got my new videos from Peggi Kroll Roberts.  After I watch them, I plan on doing the lessons.  This lesson was From Value to Color.  Getting those values correct is difficult for me and this exercise really helps.  These pictures are some that I took of my little granddaughter Annabelle.  We got her all dressed up in her Sunday dress and went out on this beautiful sunny day.  I had her pose beside her playhouse above and on her swingset.  She's a natural!  I have some other adorable shots that I plan on doing.  I guess I'll call it the Annabelle series.

Annabelle riding her bike

Whoever said painting was easy?  I'm done with this one and satisfied.  I also got the cockeyed helmet that I missed on the first attempt.  She loved posing for Grandma and her endearing personality comes through on this one.

Annabelle Looking Up

I finished this today and am very pleased with its outcome.  Again, I had to rework the background over and over softening the edges of the green area and sharpening up the edges of the shadows on the building and the building.  Annabelle was the easy part!

Annabelle Pose

This is one of my Annabelle series.  I followed the exercises from Peggi Kroll Roberts and did a grey value painting first dotting my colors to check the values.  Amazing how helpful that was in getting those correct and nice.

Thought I'd post this painting I did last year.  It's an 11 x 14 oil done with a palette knife and I love how this turned out.  As a matter of fact, I changed my blog title picture to this one.

My reflections lately:  I've been perusing what I've done so far and stressing out on what I want to spend more time on.  I feel an urgency to figure out my style, my idea, what I want to devote more time to.  But when I think I'm there, I realize I'm not.   It's a matter of READINESS.  Gee, this sounds just like what I would tell the parents of my kindergartners/first graders when they weren't reaching expectations at the same time as everyone else.  I need to practice what I preach, practice and experiment painting, and lastly, READ the title of my blog every once in a while.  The candle is not yet lit!

Beach stroll with friends

Captured this picture on Lido Beach, Florida.  I hope my photos of my paintings will improve.  Thanks to Carol Carmichael I am putting all my photos of paintings on Picasa Web Albums in Google.  The editing is so much better than what I have been using.  I still need some nice sunny day to photograph.  I live in Ohio and its been dreary for the past three days.
