Sailing, take me away to where I'm going....

I'm getting anxious to get back to where I took the photo for this painting.  It's at the Jetty at Casey Key just south of Sarasota, Florida.  My husband and I are snowbirds!  We're leaving for Sarasota right after Christmas.

Oftentimes when I get in a slump with my painting, I do boats and it helps get my confidence back.  I painted this same scene months ago which is below and did sell that painting, but after looking at the photos of the two paintings, there's a big difference.  I have more contrast in value and added much more detail in the recent one.  It was done on 6x6 black gessoed masonite.  The bottom was on 6x6 white gessoed masonite.  I'm liking the black underpainting.  Feedback would be appreciated...

Blue, blue my world is blue. Not really...

I redid this rowboat painting.  I moved in on the boats and like this composition better.  I'm working on more appealing compositions.   I notice that  many of my paintings have so much background.   Painting is a lot like learning how to golf for me.  Once you get one thing down, another problem or issue to work out makes itself evident.
This picture does not represent the vivid colors of the original.  The blue in the water and sky are softer and lovely.  I do love BLUE, don't I?

One Boat

I haven't been doing much painting lately.  A lot of scraping which isn't good.  I did gesso some of my masonite boards.  I thought I'd post this 6 x 6 painting I did a while ago.

Young Shoppers

This is on an 8x10 black gessoed panel.   Thought I'd go back to the black underpainting and I do like working on the surface with gesso.  The paint just smooths on leaving some of the background.  It's easy to get nice results and the colors are so vivid.  I did this one late last night in one sitting (alla prima).  These are my great nieces and we had such fun together this past summer!

Boy and Girl Beach Walk

I had a photo of this painting in my file from long ago and remembered why I like it.  It looks like both my husband and I when we were kids.  We now have a retirement home in Florida and do love our walks on the beach.  This is painted on 8x10 canvas panel.  I couldn't get a good photo of the painting.  I used yellow ochre in the sand color mixture.

Blue Sail

This was done on 6 x 6 black gessoed masonite.  I went to Home Depot and got some 4'x4' masonite sheets.  My terrific neighbor cut them into different sizes for me.  I have a lot of sanding edges and gessoing to do.  I did enjoy working on this black panel.  I might even try some different colors.  Mike Rooney said in a blog that it is safe to use acrylic as an underpainting for oil.

Swing Annabelle

Continuing on with Annabelle.  I did have a little difficulty with the values on this one, but I think the sunny day came through.
I'm so excited today.  I sold another painting on ebay.  Also listened to http://artistshelpingartistsblog.blogspot.com/ radio blog with Leslie Saeta and Dreama Tolle Perry on selling prints of your work.  I got signed up with imagekind.com and got some paintings on their site.  I ordered a print and was very pleased with it.  The photos I provided were done with my Cannon SLR camera, but was talking to my nephew who said printing companies will scan the original painting and it may provide a better photo.  I'm going to look into that.
